ISO/IATF 16949:2016 Changes
Revision is based on the updates made to ISO 9001:2015
ISO/IATF 16949:2016 replaced ISO/TS 16949:2009. In conjunction with ISO 9001:2015, 16949 defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, production, and when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products. It’s applicable to sites where customer-specified parts for production and service are manufactured.
In order to deal with the emergence of new challenges and the constant changes in the automotive industry, IATF and ISO introducted a new standard: IATF 16949.
IATF 16949 will be implemented in conjunction with, and as a complement to, ISO 9001:2015. Therefore, IATF 16949 is not self-sufficient quality management standard. The goal is to emphasize defect prevention, provide continuous improvement, and reduce waste and disparity in the supply chain along with other clarifications.
This means that companies seeking IATF 16949 certification must also comply with ISO 9001: 2015 requirements.
